Years in Band: 8

What do you enjoy most about being in band?
What I enjoy the most all the different types of music that we play along with pep band and marching band which is honestly so much fun.

Favorite Band Experience?
My favorite band experience is when we went to Marshall, Minnesota for a marching band competition and the park that we were at had this spinning equipment and we all almost did it or we all helped with it. So when it got to Mr. Groon’s turn and he got in there and then we started spinning him and his face turned really red and then he said “You cannot break me I’m in the military” and that will forever be my favorite memory of band.

What other activities are you involved in?
I am involved in marching band, track and field, and FFA which I was not able to do my senior year which is sad but that’s okay.

What advice do you have for younger band students?
Have fun in band, granted there is going to be days that you don’t want to be there and that’s okay but always have fun in band because it honestly was so much fun to be in band.

Tell us something about yourself that otherwise we wouldn’t know or guess.
I can play a lot of different instruments and in 4th grade, I played the cello and violin which was pretty awesome. My first two years of marching band I was on the field marching the show, my last two years I was with the front line or otherwise known as percussion and this year I march with a bass drum which was interesting. I can also play the French horn a little bit.

What are your plans after graduation?
My plan is to go to Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD and major in nursing and if that doesn’t work out I would like the major in early childhood education.
