Jim Novak began teaching at Harrisburg South Middle School in the Fall of 2015.  Prior to teaching in Harrisburg, Mr. Novak taught 5-8 bands in the Sioux Falls Catholic Schools, 6-8 band at Des Moines Public Schools, and high school band at Lincoln Public Schools.

Mr. Novak was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, where he performed with the Cornhusker Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Band I & II, and the Big Red Express.

Mr. Novak has served as a solo, ensemble, large group and marching band adjudicator in South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska.  He has also built and developed a private trumpet studio in Sioux Falls.  Mr. Novak’s professional affiliations include NAfME: The National Association for Music Education, South Dakota Bandmasters, South Dakota Music Educators Association, and the National Education Association.

Mr. Novak currently resides in Sioux Falls with his wife Erin and their two children Jay and Nora.
