STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Allyson K.

Name: Allyson K.
Instrument: Flute
Grade: 12
Years in Band: 8

What do you enjoy most about being in band?
I enjoy the challenges that are presented, not just individually, but as an ensemble. Each challenge allows us to support each other and make memories with our close friends.

Favorite Band Experience?
My favorite experience would be marching band my junior year. I ended up sitting out half of the season, but I still attended every practice and saw the dedication and passion everyone put in to make the show perfect.

What other activities are you involved in?
I peer tutor for sixth grade band at NMS.

What advice do you have for younger band students?
Take advantage of the different opportunities because the rewards and memories are worth it.

Tell us something about yourself that otherwise we wouldn’t know or guess.
Freshman year I did marching band because I was “forced” to do it, but being with that group of people made me love it and continue to be a part of the ensemble. This led me to writing a poem related to our show , Rain, and getting it published.

What are your plans after graduation?
I will be attending the University of Sioux Falls.
