Concert Band
The high school concert band meets first period each school day. Band students rehearse and perform a wide repertoire of music, including many standard pieces of concert band literature, as well as several contemporary selections for wind ensemble.

The high school band performs a winter and spring concert each year, as well as performing at the region large group contest each spring. Every two years the group plans a larger excursion, recently performing in Chicago and Dallas.

Jazz Ensemble
The high school jazz ensemble is open to students in grades 9-12 and is comprised of standard big band instrumentation (2 Alto Saxophones, 2 Tenor Saxophones, 1 Baritone Saxophone, 4 Trombones, 4 Trumpets, Piano, Bass, Guitar, & Drums).

The group rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during 0 hour, and performs a vast repertoire of literature – to include jazz standards, big band swing, latin, & rock/funk charts.

The jazz ensemble performs at the Pops Concert and regional jazz festivals.

Marching Band
Open to all band students in grades 9-12, the HHS Marching Band has recently entered the competitive marching arena. Drill camp begins in late July and lasts for two weeks. After drill camp, rehearsals are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 8:30 PM.

The HHS Marching Band performs throughout the region during the fall.

Pep Band
From “The HHS Fight Song” to “Crazy Train” and “Hey Baby”, this group, comprised of all band students in grades 9-12, energizes the home crowd at many fall and winter athletic events.

Occasionally the HHS Pep Band takes their show on the road — Most recently to entertain the crowd at the 2012 South Dakota State “A” Boys Basketball tournament and 2014 South Dakota State “AA” Girls Basketball Tournament.
